1950’S LE JOUR CHRONOGRAPH

THE STORY

While the French might not get the same attention as the Swiss when talking watches, French watchmaking in the 1950’s worked in hand with the Swiss, most French watches running on Swiss parts and thereby sharing the reputation the Swiss had become known for.  Le Jour was a brand under which French watchmaker Yema distributed watches to the US market.  Yema got its start in 1948 when Frenchman Henry Louis Belmont held a contest to name his new company.  An anonymous teenager won out with Yema, and the brand quickly became known in France for their high quality and robust watches.

THE WATCH

This gents Le Jour chronograph is classic 1950’s design and is in exceptional condition.  The case is polished steel and measures 37.5mm excluding the crown making it extremely wearable.   Edges are sharp, and the radially brushed silver dial is mint and original with intact factory finish.  The applied silver arrow markers are subtle and classic and combine with the original alpha hands for an overall refined feel.  Original creamy dial and hand lume.

An original Venus 188 hand winding chronograph movement is running well and keeping excellent time.

We’ve paired this Le Jour chronograph with a modern brown leather strap and steel buckle.
