RECORD CHRONOGRAPH 38mm | VENUS 178 | 18KT YG

-

This vintage, mechanical Record chronograph is in outstanding cosmetic and functional condition.  The solid 18 karat yellow gold case measures an oversized 38mm not including the original crown, and remains unpolished.  A true rarity.

Record was founded in 1903 as the Record Dreadnaught S.A. and produced many beautiful timepieces before being acquired by Longines in 1961.  The unrestored silver metallic dial on this piece has developed a golden tropical patina in a gradient pattern and features gold applied pyramid hour markers and arabic markers applied at 12 o’clock.  Concentric subdials at 3, 6 and 9 balance the dial nicely and all original hands are present.

The caseback is stamped 905, a possible reference number and has rectangular gold chronograph pushers.  A hallmark is stamped in the case at 9 o’clock and the stepped bezel alternates between a brushed and polished finish.

Powered by a Venus 178, this watch shares the same movement found in examples of the Breitling Navitimer and the Universal Geneve Compax.  It comes on a brown genuine crocodile strap with a gold plated buckle.
