THE STORY

As one of the most prestigious watchmaking houses in the world, Patek Philippe is a brand that needs no introduction.  Also one of the few whose vintage stainless steel references are commonly known to fetch more than their precious metal counterparts, a vintage 1940’s Patek Philippe reference 1518 chronograph in steel famously sold for $11.1 million in November 2016, setting a world record for the most expensive wristwatch sold at auction.

In 2007 a reference 3419 was offered by Christies and hammered at $18,579 US.  The watch was on a bracelet with no strap and included the box.  In 2015 Christies featured another 3419, this one featuring a box and origin papers and was on the original bracelet, again without the strap.  This watch hammered at $20,000 US.

THE WATCH

A superlative gents Patek Philippe 3419 reference “convertible” wrist watch in stainless steel.  A special case design allows the mesh bracelet to be removed and replaced with steel lugs so that the watch may be worn on a strap as well.  Both the original mesh bracelet and removable lugs with original unworn signed strap and signed steel buckle are present.  This watch measures 34mm excluding the original signed crown.  Original factory finished white dial with light cream patina and fine crazing throughout.  Silver indices reverse cut into dial surface.  Original black hour, minute and subsidiary second hands.

Original Patek Philippe caliber 27-AM400 “amagnetic” hand winding movement with eighteen jewels, adjusted to heat, cold, isochronism and five positions.  Extremely clean, running well and keeping excellent time.  Movement number 731188, case number 2619956.
